Why You Need to Work With a Well-trained & Certified Life Coach

So you've finally decided to hire a life coach. Awesome! Life coaching has the potential to transform virtually every area of your life. However, it's essential to remember that life coaching is an unregulated industry. That means that not every "official coach" is an actual highly trained and certified life coach.

If you're new to life coaching, here are some strategies for finding a certified life coach that is a master of their craft. Plus, learn what to avoid when looking for a life coach.

What to Avoid

When you get into life coaching and personal development, you most likely utilize popular social media platforms. There's an abundance of Facebook groups and other social media groups where you can network with people just like you that want to master every area of their life. Because of this, you'll likely come across many self-proclaimed life coaches.

However, because the life coaching industry is unregulated, virtually anyone can declare themselves an "official life coach" or whatever term they prefer to use. Many of these people are legit, but others may not be a great return for your time and money.

If a life coach doesn't have much experience or credibility, it doesn't mean they're a bad person or are trying to steal your money. On the contrary, many non-certified life coaches are spirited individuals with good intentions. The problem is that they may be lacking the specialized training and certification(s) that can help you to achieve the results that you're after.

On your quest for a great life coach, here are some things to avoid when you find a coaching prospect:

  • They don't have much of an online presence and very few (if any) testimonials.

  • Their social media profiles contain inappropriate content.

  • They're brand new online and only have content from the past couple of months or so.

  • They don't have any certification(s) listed on their profiles.

Signs That You've Found the Perfect Coach

While there may be many inexperienced and unaccredited life coaches out there, it's not that hard to find a real authentic life coach. You have to do your due diligence by doing proper research.

One of the most important things to look for in a life coach is their experience and qualifications. Does the person have a certification? Are they certified members of the ICF (International Coaching Federation)? You want to look for credentials and make sure that they are accredited by a credible organization and not from a random website.

Here are a few signs that you've found an honest, highly trained life coach:

  • They're certified with a world-class life coaching organization ( such as ICF).

  • They have a strong social media presence, blog and are active online.

  • They have raving testimonials from previous and current clients

  • They practice what they preach and are transparent with their lives.

Recap

Don't be intimidated when you look for a life coach. With the internet, you're only a few clicks away from hiring a genuine, authentic, certified life coach that will help you achieve your goals and achieve the life you desire.
